Thinking of switching, been reading up, looks all right, just wondering how well most games run on it. Mainly just tf2, portal, etc. and fallout 3. Ive heard that wine can run a lot of games, just making sure. so any advice would be appreciated.

Fuck Ubuntu. You have to update the OS every 6 months. Most of the time the update breaks parts of the OS and loses some functions i.e hibernate. I did a comparison between TF2 on my memory tweaked vista vs. Ubuntu and the framerate is almost the same. Ubuntu by default is a pretty bloated linux. You may be able to get high fps with a custom install and a different window manager or other OS (but then most other linux distros using WINE breaks parts of it). If for some reason you still want to do it you can Dual-boot the 2 OS's but there is an annoying 5 second wait to pick the OS in the Grub menu feels too long if you boot your computer frequently. Also if you have an ATI graphics card the game crashes a lot see here :http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=9901 . I also remember when I did it the HUD was broken, certain textures were broken, font size broken, mic didn't wanna work with it, game crashed every 20 minutes (because I have and ATI video card)

In other shorter words don't do it. There is no advantage of having Ubuntu over XP or hell even Vista when it comes to TF2
